Letter to Students

Dear English Language Arts students and parents,

We hope all of you and your families are safe and well during this strange time. We’re navigating our collective “new normal” and hoping to continue to connect with you and support you even if we can’t physically be with you.

Regarding “Community Connection/ Academic Enrichment,” it will not be school as usual. We are offering you enrichment to practice your skills of reading, critical thinking, writing, and communication. Here are the specifics:

-We’ll be sharing an initial post with students on Google Classroom and via email this Monday, March 23. In it, we’ll share the BHS ELA Enrichment Protocol Template.

-Students will have choice about what they want to read. It can be anything of interest- a book, an article, a short story, a poem. We will attach a list of possible resources to get you started. We will also offer writing prompts/questions to help start you thinking.

-Some of us may schedule an “in person” Google Meet toward the end of each week for students who’d like to discuss their learning, ask questions, and say “Hi” to us and their classmates virtually.

-During our regular weekly office hours, we can connect with you through email or Classroom.

Again, this work is not mandatory and will not be graded or assessed. You really can choose what you’d like to do.

We also humbly request that you bear with us as we figure this stuff out, and if you have feedback on how things are going, please don’t hesitate to share. Thanks in advance for all the support!
